DESCRIPTION:About the course\nIn this one day introductory course you will gain an insight into the wonderful world of contemporary kiln-fired glass. Once you understand how glass behaves when heated you begin to understand the possibilities of glass art. In this course students learn the techniques of fusing\, slumping and texturing glass in a kiln through the making of practical projects and demonstrations. No previous glass experience is necessary. \nWhat you will learn\n\nA solid introduction to the skills required to cut\, handle\, and assemble glass sheets.\nThe principles of glass fusing\, slumping and texturing will be discussed and demonstrated through project-based learning.\nThe design and production of three kiln formed glass pieces as part of the learning process\, which are kept by the students. Examples include a textured clear glass plate\, a coloured plate of your own design\, and photographic image on glass.\nGlass compatibility\, annealing and firing programs.\nAn introduction to kiln types\, kiln preparation and use\, and firing schedules.\nAn understanding of types of molds available\, and the preparation required for slumping and texturizing glass.\nSafety requirements and procedures for the workshop space.\n\nWhat do I need to bring?\n\nLunch for the day (fridge is available). Tea and coffee provided.\nPlease wear closed in shoes (safety requirement for entry into the workshop)\nWear comfortable suitable clothes for working and apron if desired.\nNotebook for taking notes if desired – printed notes are also given during course\nA photographic image to fuse onto glass. Tea and coffee provided.\nPlease wear closed in shoes (safety requirement for entry into the workshop)\nWear comfortable suitable clothes for working and apron if desired.\nNotebook for taking notes if desired – printed notes are also given during course\n\nPayment Details\nTo secure a position in a course a $100 deposit is required using the form below. The balance is strictly due three weeks prior to commencement of course. \nCancellation Policy\nCancellation by the student:\n\nCancellation more than three weeks prior to the course will be refunded less a $25 administration fee.\nCancellations within three weeks of the course will result in a loss of deposit.\nCancellation within 7 days of the course will not be provided with a refund unless the position can be filled by another student in which case just the loss of deposit will occur. When cancellation occurs within 7 days of the course we cannot provide a credit or transfer.
